Registration and transfers of .SG domains

Requirements for .sg domains

The domain registration regulations and policies for the .sg top level domain are handled by SGNIC, a subsidiary of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore.

BasicBrix is currently able to register 6 of the .sg domain types. The applicant requirements for the domain types are as follows:

.sg Available to all applicants with a Singapore agent as the Administrative Contact Available to ACRA/IE registered companies, partnerships, and businesses Available to Registry of Societies registered organisations Available to IDA licensed infocomm/network providers Available to MOE registered educational institutions Available to any individual who is a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident


Each applicant who wishes to register a .sg domain name must appoint an Administrative Contact, or be the Administrative Contact, who is an individual based in Singapore, has a Singapore postal address, and a valid SingPass ID (used for VerifiedID@SG).

BasicBrix is working to enable registrations of .新加坡 and .சிங்கப்பூர் domains but is currently unable to do so.


Registrations and Transfers

Registrations and transfers for .sg domains are done automatically by myBasicBrix during the sign up process, but due to strict policies in place by SGNIC, they are not always successful.

When an automated registration or transfer fails for whatever reason, our support team will manually re-submit these registrations or transfers on the next working day. If a registration or transfer has failed due to invalid details (ACRA/ROS registration number, SingPass ID, address, etc.), our support team will contact you on the next working day for clarification.

New registrations of and domains will always fail the automated process and will be submitted manually. A scanned copy of the educational establishment permit from the Ministry of Education (for domains) or the appropriate IDA licence (for domains) will be required for the registration to be successful.


The Registration and Transfer Process

If you are transferring a .sg domain type from another registrar, please obtain the EPP code from your existing registrar. You may do this through their control panel or by contacting their technical support team.

  1. Before signing up for a new Cloud Hosting service, please ensure that your Profile in myBasicBrix are that of your Singapore Administrative Contact, including a Singapore registered company as the Company Name. This is the company that the domain will be registered to. The Company Name is not required for and individual .sg registrations. Also ensure that the address, city, state, country, postal code, and phone number are all in Singapore.
  2. During the sign up process, after selecting your preferred domain name, you will need to enter the ACRA/ROS registration number (for a business/corporate/organisation applicant) and your NRIC number (which is your SingPass ID for VerifiedID@SG). You will also need the EPP code for domain transfers.
  3. Once the payment process has been completed, if the domain registration is successful, the Administrative Contact will receive an e-mail from SGNIC with a link in which they will have to log-in using their SingPass ID and password and authorise the domain registration or transfer.
  4. Once the domain registration or transfer is authorised, SGNIC will register or transfer the domain. This is usually completed within a few hours although it may take up to 48 hours. If you have transferred a domain from another registrar, the domain expiry will be extended by one year from its previous expiry date. Please note that this domain extension is only applicable for .sg domain types.

If the automated registration or transfer fails and is submitted manually by our support team, the Administrative Contact will also receive an e-mail for SingPass authorisation which they will need to perform as in step 3 above.
